Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) Eligibility Criteria
Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) are teachers who teach at the postgraduate level, i.e., to students who have completed their bachelor’s degree. PGTs are typically required to have a master’s degree in the subject they teach, as well as a teaching qualification such as a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) or Master of Education (M.Ed) degree.
The specific eligibility criteria for PGTs may vary depending on the state or country in which they are applying. However, the general eligibility criteria are as follows:
- Educational qualification: Master’s degree in the relevant subject from a recognized university.
- Teaching qualification: B.Ed or M.Ed degree from a recognized university.
- Age limit: The minimum age limit is typically 21 years, and there is no upper age limit.
In addition to the above eligibility criteria, some states or countries may also require PGTs to have a certain amount of teaching experience.

We are giving here U.P. PGT QUALIFICATIONS / ELIGIBILITY subject wise according to the U.P. Secondary Service Selection Board Prayagraj.
1.U.P. PGT HINDI QUALIFICATION/ELIGIBILITY:-

प्रशिक्षण योग्यता वरीयमान (राजाज्ञा संख्या- मा०/4428/15.7.2(13)- 76. दिनांक 16 मार्च, 1979 के अनुसार दिनांक 05 अप्रैल, 1975 के पूर्व हाईस्कूल कक्षाओं के अध्यापन हेतु तत्समय प्रचलित विनियमों के अनुसार नियुक्त अध्यापकों के लिये यदि वे निर्धारित अन्य शैक्षिक योग्यतायें रखते हों इण्टरमीडिएट कक्षाओं के हिन्दी प्रवक्ता पद पर प्रोन्नति हेतु संस्कृत विषय से बीए) उत्तीर्ण होना आवश्यक नहीं होगा।

हिन्दी में एम0 ए0 के साथ-साथ संस्कृत विषयों से स्नातकोत्तर परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण योग्यताधारी को इण्टरमीडिएट कक्षाओं के प्रवक्ता पद पर सीधे नियुक्ति अथवा प्रवक्ता पद पर प्रोन्नति हेतु बी०ए० में संस्कृत विषय की अनिवार्यता से मुक्ति रहेगी।
वरीयमान /अधिमानी अर्हता/preference qualification:– बी० एड०, एम०एड०, पी(एचडी) एवं किसी राष्ट्रीय स्तर की खेलकूद प्रतियोगिता में राज्य स्तर की टीम के माध्यम से भाग लेने का प्रमाण पत्र
2.U.P.PGT MATHMATICS QUALIFICATION /ELIGIBILITY:-
- M.A. and M.Sc. Mathematics training preferred.
OR
2. B.A.(Hons) or B.Sc (Hons) training with three year course in Mathematics is preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
3. U.P. PGT HOME SCIENCE QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY:-.
- M.Sc in Home Science or M.A in Home Economics or Home Art. OR
- Graduate trained in Home Economics or Domestic Science or Home Art.
Comment:-Post Graduate degree from a recognized university established by law in India. (In continuation of Government Order No. 1121/15-8-90/3087789 dated February 28, 1990)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
4. U.P.PGT ENGLISH QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY :-
- Post Graduate Degree in English subject from Uttar Pradesh or any other recognized university established as per rules. Preference will be given to those having LT Diploma from a training college or degree or diploma in education from a recognized university.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-
B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
5. U.P.PGT ART QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY:-
-
Art Masters Training Certificate (formerly known as Drawing Teachers Training Certificate) of the Government School of Arts and Crafts, Lucknow B (Ed.) including Intermediate Examination.
Or
- Intermediate examination with Technical Arts and any one of the following examinations-
(a) B.A. with drawing or painting or
(b) Fine Art Diploma of Kala Bhavan, Shanti Niketan or
(c) Final Drawing Teachership Examination of Calcutta or (d) Teachers Senior Certificate Examination of Mayo School of Arts,
Comment:- Training Preferred
(1)- Under (2) above, it is necessary for everyone to pass the intermediate examination, but if the proof of having taken technical art in that examination is not available, then the proof of knowledge of technical art of that level is accepted in its place. Institutions for girls’ education may grant exemptions from technical arts qualifications to their teachers.
(2) – Post Graduate degree from a recognized university established by law in India (in pursuance of Government Order No. 1121/15-8-903087/89 dated 28 February, 1990).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
6. U.P. PGT SANSKRIT QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY :- M.A. training in Sanskrit preferred or complete Acharya training qualification of Government Sanskrit College, Varanasi (now Sampoornanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi) preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
7.U.P. PGT COMMERCE QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY:- M.COM.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
8. U. P. PGT AGRICULTURE QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY:- Agriculture:- M.Sc. (Agriculture) Training Preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
9. U.P. PGT ECONOMICS QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY :-
1. M.A (Economics) training preferred. OR
2. M.Com and B.Com training with economics preferred .OR
3. Certificate of training in B.A. (Hons) in Economics including three year course is preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
10. U.P. PGT CIVICS QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY :-
1.M.A (Politics) Training Preferred . OR
2. Certificate of training in B.A. (Hons) in Politics including three year course is preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
11. U.P. PGT HISTORY QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY :-
1. M.A. in History training preferred. OR
2. M.A. in Ancient Indian History training preferred
OR
3. Certificate of training in B.A. (Hons) in History including three year course is preferred.
Comment:- Candidates having postgraduate degree in Medieval History and Modern History will be considered eligible for the post of History Lecturer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
12. U.P. PGT GEOGRAPHY QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY :-
1. M.A. or M.Sc. in Geography.Training preferred or
2. B.A. (Hons.) training preferably including three year course in Geography or B.Sc. (Hons.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
13. U.P. PGT PSYCHOLOGY QUALIFICATION/ ELIGIBILITY:-
1. M.A. (Psychology) training preferred OR
2. M.Ed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
14. U.P. PGT SOCIOLOGY QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY :-
1. M.A. (Sociology) training preferred Or
2. B.A. (Hons) with three year course in Sociology
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
15. U.P. PGT CHEMISTRY QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY :-
1. M.Sc. in Chemistry Training preferred OR
2. B.Sc.(Hons.) with three year course in Chemistry Training Preferred OR
3. Post Graduate (Biochemistry) training from a University Degree College recognized by UGC is preferred.OR
3. B.Sc. with Post Graduate Diploma in Chemistry conducted by the Department of Education, Uttar Pradesh in a University or Degree College.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
16. U.P. PGT PEDAGOGY QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY :-
1. Post Graduate Degree in Pedagogy M.A. OR
2. M.Ed. with B.A. or B.Sc. OR
3. M.A. in Psychology with LT or B.T. or B.Ed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
17. U.P. PGT BIOLOGY QUALIFICATION / ELIZABETH:-
1. M.Sc. in Botany or Zoology or Training Preferred. OR
2. M.Sc. with Agricultural Botany in B.Sc. Zoology or training preferred.OR
3. M.Sc. with Agricultural Zoology. B.Sc. Botany or training preferably
4. Certificate from a University Degree College recognized by UGC.M.Sc. (Life Sciences) or training preferred. OR
5. In any university or degree college by the Education Department, Uttar Pradesh B.Sc. with Post Graduate Diploma in Biology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
18. U.P. PGT PHYSICS QUALIFICATION / ELIGIBILITY:-
1. M.Sc. (Physics) training preferred. OR.
2. B.Sc. with Post Graduate Diploma in Physics conducted by the Education Department, Uttar Pradesh in a University or Degree College.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION :-B.Ed, M.Ed, PHD and certificate of participation in any national level sports competition through state level team.
